Satkhol Himalayan Ashram
Satkhol Himalayan Ashram – “Heaven on Earth”
An invitation into profound silence, a sanctuary of peace and purity, Shri Ram Chandra Mission’s ashram at Satkhol in Uttaranchal is a sacred place in the hearts of followers of the Sahaj Marg system of spirituality. A visit to Satkhol can be a transformational journey, changing the lives of those who immerse themselves in its quiet and subtle atmosphere. Welcome, then, to a celebration of spirituality!
Located in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas in the Nainital District, at an elevation of approximately 1900m (5700 ft), Satkhol is nestled in a golden valley among orange groves and whispering willows. Here, nature displays its pristine best, with flowers of different shapes and hues creating a riot of colour and texture. On cold and sunny mornings, as you walk down the steep and winding path from the gate to the cottage, the majestic Himalayan range greets you in all its splendour. Yet the sight that meets the eye is only a hint of the beauty you will discover once you retreat into the sanctuary of your own heart.
A heavenly atmosphere permeates the Satkhol ashram. Wherever one sits, the silence and stillness lead inward, toward a mystical exploration of the mind and deep states of meditation. After a few days, one feels totally absorbed in the atmosphere, and there is finally little difference between the state of meditation and that of performing all other simple, daily actions.
Preparing to visit Satkhol Himalayan Ashram
Consider why you are coming to the ashram. Remember that it is not a resort, but a place where your spiritual progress is supported by an environment that has been especially prepared to benefit your spiritual growth, a place for retreat and rejuvenation of the true Self.
If you come with a group or family, tell them about the purpose of your visit. Ask them to keep the environment pure and to respect the spiritual atmosphere. If you come with children, help them to appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the place. Explain the purpose of your retreat. A natural sensitivity and awareness allows children to understand, and they will also benefit from the ashram atmosphere.
Keep silent as much as possible, and listen. In silence you will find the inner Master. Be present in the here and now and allow your stay at the ashram to be free of distractions that can agitate your mind and divert it back to the outside world. If you have to take a call, go to a private space where you will not disturb others.
We wish you a wonderful and fruitful stay in Satkhol.
